About the Course

This is the fifth course in the Google Data Analytics Certificate. In this course, you’ll explore what it means to actually analyze your data. You’ll take what you’ve learned up to this point and apply it to make sense of the data you’ve collected. You’ll learn how to organize and format your data using spreadsheets and SQL to help you look at and think about your data in different ways. You’ll also find out how to perform complex calculations with your data to address business objectives. You’ll learn how to use formulas, functions, and SQL queries as you conduct your analysis. Current Google data analysts will continue to instruct and provide you with hands-on ways to accomplish common data analyst tasks with the best tools and resources. Learners who complete this certificate program will be equipped to apply for introductory-level jobs as data analysts. No previous experience is necessary. By the end of this course, learners will: - Learn how to organize data for analysis. - Understand the processes for formatting and adjusting data. - Explore how to aggregate data in spreadsheets and by using SQL. - Use formulas and functions in spreadsheets to make data calculations. - Learn how to complete calculations using SQL queries....

Very good and useful practice of SQL. The JOIN party is pretty hardcore so I definitely couldn't master it but got enough of an understanding where I could learn quickly with some on the job training.

This course was certainly more nuts and bolts than the previous courses which was nice, but there was definitely a feeling that it missed some major teaching opportunities about aggregation in SQL and seemed to have a lot more small issues regarding things like pulling variables differently on screen and in the actual database from the reading, etc. Also this is the course where doing some more reading outside the course(or at least going pretty in depth into the "5 minute" supplementary materials) really pays off, to the point of being virtually required. Everything before this course you can breeze through in less than half the time recommended, this one was a little more time consuming. Overall though if you are willing to work on your own(which you probably are if you are here) and you like to explore something you see the instructor do if it isnt explained you will feel much better about your SQL knowledge after getting through this course. The tests are still very easy.

It will always be challenging to have a an online learning course that uses an ever-changing public database. I was able to follow along with the instructor through most queries, but only if I was paying attention to what had changed. The New York Citibike dataset that we worked with often during this course, for example, has changed the name of one of the tables within that dataset. I don't remember exactly what it was, but I do remember needing to make slight changes to my queries each time we used this dataset. On the final activity where we used Austin's bikeshare data, I found that the station ID to be different than what I had been told it would be. The answer for the question in the assignment hadn't changed and was correct, but this could be confusing for some. Ultimately I understand the challenges of a static course working with something as fluid as SQL, but maybe these videos can be edited more frequently to reflect those changes?

The first two weeks were good, the third week was difficult as the instructor didn't say what they were typing and going fairly quickly. I like to think I can type fairly quickly at about 80wpm, but it was a struggle to keep up. Things usually click fairly quickly for me, but again, it was going so fast that I had to rewind the videos multiple times in the same section to even understand what was happening because it was not being explained very well. (SQL classes)

Week 4 was great. The instructor was talking about what they were typing and why they were inputting the functions into SQL. Week 4 clicked.

Overall, the course is a great look into the life of SQL, I love that one of the discussion prompts were me looking for information on my own. I am excited to use this knowledge again to stay in-practice!

Analyze Data is probably THE most important module in the Google Data Analytics Professional Certificate. I found the content to be good, but the organization of this module to be rather confusing because the sub-sections switch back and forth between spreadsheets and SQL. It is a four-week course, but it felt very long, and dense with concepts, functions, and some long SQL syntax.

I feel like this course would have been better if it would break up the module into two sections: one for data analysis with spreadsheets, and one for data analysis with SQL, and keep the two methods of analysis separate for better learning and retention of the concepts. Yes, there is crossover, but when learning, you want to learn ONE thing at a time, not jump between two things quite so much.

In my opinion it is a lot of items to cover up in this course, for me as a future prospect entry level in Data Analysis there is a lot of good information but will be better to split it between course 4 and course 5. There are a lot of structures and syntax for SQL which were covered really fast for the instructor and you don't have the time to get familiar with while you in the next item are covering another one more complex, probably for someone with background in SQL is good enough but for someone like me who is looking for make a full career change and doesn't have any background on is more difficult. In the previous course the SQL items were really good covered, understandable and good paced to watch and review them. In this course all of them were fast paced covered.

This was by far the most difficult module out of the 5 courses I've completed so far....there's a lot of information and new formulas to digest. Quite challenging but totally worth it! I like that the activities set up are walk throughs/ guided formulas to help practice. However, many complex formulas are first sprang on you in a video and then explained much later, so it did feel a bit confusing at times. Would have been great if there were introductions first to these difficult formulas, then working through threm. Otherwise, I have gained so much knowledge. Totally worth it! My brain cells have definitely expanded!

The instructor is very professional and has a deep knowledge of the matter. The operations which can be done on the data are shown for spreadsheets and SQL in a coherent manner, which helps to reinforce what has been learned. It will improve the course to show some schematics of the different tables within an SQL dataset, particularly for the sections where nested queries and joins are discussed. It will help to understand better what the code lines in SQL do rather than just displaying the output of the code in BigQuery.

The preparation of the big query was kind of a headache and some tool to show which function works only on BigQuery and not on other tools would be helpful. Also, the other way around like it was said in the Temp table where SELECT INTO does not work in big query. I was using MySQL for some task and FULL JOIN does not work there so you have to do a right and left join with a very weird method which could have been mentioned in the video. Overall the instruction and activities are well done.

I enjoyed the course but not as much as previous ones. There was a bit of a disconnect between the material being taught and that being tested (taught material was signifiantly harder than the tests). Also, some of the classes could have been scaffolded better with a bit more guidance particularly around nested queries and temporary tables. I only managed to understand this part of the course because I had already completed a Udacity course on SQL. A complete beginner would've been lost.

This is the most technical part of the data analytics course certificate, for me. it was really tough and challenging for me to grasp all the technical terms and functions. The facilitator did her best to break it down. The downside I had with it is the audio volume, it was low/ poor in most of the lessons, and I had to strain to hear. she was a bit too fast while showing the practical examples on a spreadsheet or SQL. Apart from these two issues, I enjoyed her teaching. Thank you.

Content is good, but very fast in places. I had to watch a few of the SQL focused videos several times and pause them repeatedly, especially during Week 3. I am a quick typist and have some experience in SQL, so the fact that it was challenging for me suggests that the target audience will have even more trouble with this. Overall, this has been very good and helpful, but it is the least well-constructed part of the Google Data Analytics certification I've encountered so far.

It was a very informative course. however the hands-on activities towards the end were broken or not very helpful in gaining extra knowledge on a subject because it wasn't clear how to get the results they were asking for. The course videos took forever to get through due to their not being elaboration into the information. I had to spend at least an hour per video and play with the systems to learn the concepts though i still am not fully confident i get it fully still

i so much enjoyed this class. i need to brush up on my Database SQL skills, is one area i know i am really lacking behind. however the lecturer was pretty amazing with a step by step details. but next time when explaining SQL kindly take everyone as an armature because not everyone understand the language and you are too fast. with that said every other thing she touched was beautiful and amazing. thank you for this amazing opportunity.

I think this is a really good course to keep building knowledge and gaining practice with functions with spreadsheets and SQL following on from the previous courses in the certificate, and, in this sense, I think it is brilliant and a challenge to me. However, I also think that, in terms of analysis, there could have been a few more introductory concepts that will be required in the future like basic statistical analysis.

This course was well organized and provided loads of great tutorials on using tools for spreadsheets and for SQL. It was a great introductory course for data analysis. My only qualm is that it would make more sense to me to integrate the course project into this stage of the course. It makes much more sense to practice skills for the analysis phase of your final project while we are learning the tools for that analysis.

There are a multitude of things that are not right about this course. That is mainly because of constant updates. I learned a lot of SQL and tried my best to do every one of the SQL tests and training exercises but there are few, even if you try and follow their steps completely you won't get your results. I googled and learned from others on the internet which to tell you the truth the course instructor said herself.

Instructor was extremely knowledgable and the course was fairly easy to follow. I had some SQL knowledge prior to the course and found that I still learned quite a bit about SQL through the teachings. I also appreciated that the spreadsheet concepts and resources provided were related to Excel as well as Google Sheets. A few of the quiz and assignment questions were a little convoluted but overall a well done course.

Overall, I thought the course was good but I wish we spent more time discussing the more complicated SQL queries. I feel like building up strong SQL skills are really important for a data analyst and when we got to the more complex queries it was more like "here's the code, copy it and use it" rather than slowing down and really explaining what needed to be done to accomplish this complex query.

Course conductor teaching and her knowledge was commendable. But the course teaches with google sheet, assisgnment, tests that need to be completed for the course, guided instructions are all in google sheet, if you are learning from excel, corresponding instruction are not given, student has to find on their own. So much time spent on finding the corresponding options was very frusterating

Content was great and comprehensible , what seemed disappointing to me was that the material was not challenging enough and did not require intensive thinking, many exercises or even the course challenge just hinted the solutions to me, I felt like more learning can be done if I actually practiced solving issues and writing my own code instead of copy and pasting given code on the exercises.

Had a great time going through the material though it's pretty much like a review for me as I've been using Spreadsheets and SQL/RDBMS. On the other hand, it's great to refresh and have a better understanding of the analysis phase, and continued data validation processes. I'm primarily taking this whole certification program to earn the Google Professional Certificate as a Data Analyst.

The course focuses on clauses and statements in SQL, it gives you the concepts to write queries and pull the data you need from your dataset. Some queries were complicated and not explained well by the instructor, however the course gives you the online resources you need to develop your skills.

It also gives you an idea about the required and most common used functions in spreadsheet.

Overall, it was a great course to learn the basics of SQL queries and spreadsheets, I feel like this course was a bit rushed a bit challenging for a beginner, however who said this was not going to be a challenge. There were allot of resources provided to help with SQL, but I will definitely need to take a supplementary course to make sure I got the full understanding and grasp of SQL.

I found this course a bit more repetitive than the earlier courses in this sequence. On the whole, that may have been a good thing as I got in a bit more practice. However, it also seemed less well-put-together, like it could have used another round of copy editing. There were just a bunch of things that should have been expressed more clearly. On the whole, though, it was pretty good.

The course is very good with a lot of practice exercises, but it doesn't present the actual concept of analysis in depth. On the other hand, it mainly focuses on the analysis tools like spreadsheets and SQL which is absolutely great, but the course is needed to be a bit longer to elaborate all the needed concepts of analysis with some practice examples that help deepen them.
