About the Course

This course provides instruction and strategies to support you in developing a course that is inclusive to students with a wide range of abilities, including students with disabilities. We cover effective practices to increase inclusion and avoid some of the common accessibility issues that can arise in an online course. In particular, Basics of Inclusive Design Online covers course organization, the accessibility of Microsoft Office and PDF documents, making course instruction pages accessible, captioning of videos, making images accessible, and designing for learning differences. We also discuss how inclusive course materials can help all students, including students without disabilities. This course will appeal to those who want both a broad overview of the range of accessibility considerations and also a step-by-step guide of how to check documents for accessibility, caption a video, or prepare course content for non-visual users. After taking this course I now understand accessibility and I am able to apply this new found knowledge to the courses I build to create a more inclusive online educational experience for students.

This course showed me many areas that I could improve my teaching experience. Something as simple as adding captions can make or break students ability to retain the information.

Pros: 1. Presenter and material was well planned, 2. activities for learners were varied, 3. teaching through a variety of modes.

Cons: 1. Completing the course is dependent on there being other people taking the course at the same time, but this is not clear until you submit your first assignment for peer-review. During my study, only 1 other person was available to grade my assignments, and I had to wait until that person logged in. If they had chosen to go through the modules more slowly, I might have had to wait a long time until their next study session. 2. The primary instructor's presentations/videos were recorded in 2016. Most of the websites referenced in the lectures have been updated since then, so when the Instructor said 'go to this tab on this resource website' those directions were no longer applicable and quite confusing.

Overall I got great information from this course. If I were rating the learning, it would likely be a 5.

I was disappointed and frustrated with the speed and consistency regarding feedback. It's hard to work ahead if you have to wait on peer reviews and activity because the course is rolling enrollment. Hence the removal of a star.

Love the way this course was delivered in a very simple and precise manner. You get all the necessary things you expect to learn. I learned practical knowledge. The only thing I would say that needs to be improved here is the volume of the videos, it's too low.

Primero módulo ok

Segundo módulo se pierde un poco en el foco o no se comprende bien a lo que apunta en la introducción.

Luego retoma el foco principal

The content of this course was great, but it needed to be updated. Many links provided needed to be fixed. The screenshots of the content in the modules were not the same as the live websites. The PowerPoint modules need to be updated.

Waiting for assignments to be reviewed is a major drawback. The assignment on adding subtitles to videos must be made more user friendly.
