Hello my name is Eliseo ''Cheo'' Torres. I'm an administrator and a professor at the University of New Mexico. Today we have part of a series on traditional medicine of Mexico in the Southwest. We have two individuals that are going to demonstrate how you can heal through sound. How interesting? You can heal through sound, and this is a traditional sound. We also have an interpreter from Denver that will be interpreting what they will be discussing. We have Juan Carlos. Juan Carlos is a healer from Morelos. Juan Carlos is a Native. Meshika name is Shoah Carlo, and with him is Birithi Ana. Birithi Ana's meshika name is Tonasiwa. So we want to thank both of you, and we want to thank Elena. Elena Claiver comes from Denver. She's a professional interpreter. She's a danzante, she dances traditional Aztec dances and she's a promotora here of traditional health; which is a promoter of traditional health. All of them come from a school in Mexico called CEVEC, Centro de Desarrollo de la Communidad. Where they are instructors in the school, but they practice this in their villages. With that I will leave it up to Juan Carlos, [inaudible]. Thank you very much. The healing that we're going to show at this moment, it comes from the Meshika Cosmo Vision. Within the tradition, the four elements are used. We have the direction of the East, the direction of the north, the direction of the South, and the direction of the West. In this healing we use two elements, we use the azteco Colyer conch shell. It represents the direction of the east, it represents the direction of the light, the direction of wisdom. It's guardian the protector of this direction, is Quetzalcoatl. Quetzalcoatl is the representation of the transformation of humankind and the expansion of his or her spirit through the wisdom that we acquire throughout our lives. As such, through the sound of the shell, Quetzalcoatl speaks so that what might be introduced in the person's body is light, clarity, wisdom, so that their life might be harmonized. This is deep healing. We also use an element from the north, Obsidian. Black Obsidian is the representation of the direction of the north. It helps us observe our True Face. It helps us realize what are the emotions, our emotions that are harming us. It helps us know what it is we need to work with in order to heal ourselves. It represents the guardian of the North tezcatlipoca who teaches us who our true enemy is; ourselves. This healing which is composed of an element of light and an element of darkness, as these two elements are united in one single treatment, we form life. This duality between the positive and the negative, between day and night, when they are united we create life as when we unite the feminine or masculine in order to create life. I would like Juan Pablo to come so that we can show how to do the demonstration. We're going to use these two elements, but before starting we have to offer a prayer and ask permission. We're asking permission of the person who's going to receive this treatment and ask his guardians, his protectors, his ancestors for permission in order to receive this energy, to receive this healing. I ask permission of you to carry out this healing, this treatment so that you can harmonize your life, healing your body, healing your heart. We're going to uncover the naval area. The naval area is the most powerful energetic center that we have done where energy comes in and goes out. We're going to start by breathing slowly and deeply. Breathe slowly and deeply. You're going to call in your guardians, your protectors, your ancestors. You'll call them so that they might come here at this moment. So that they might come and help you heal. So that they might come and give you messages and advice. Breathe slowly and deeply. Breathe slowly and deeply. Breathe slowly and deeply. Breath slowly and deeply. With each slow and deep breath, you feel more at peace, you feel in harmony. Now is the time to say farewell to your guardians, your protectors, your ancestors, giving thanks that they were here with you, healing you, giving you messages and advice. Now is the time to come back. You're going to slowly move your toes, your fingers. Slowly, very slowly open your eyes. Open your eyes. Open your eyes. How are you? Good. What did you feel? Very good, peace. We're going to take off the obsidian mirror, and you're going to push out all of the emotions: fear, anger, sadness so that we can free them, then we can harmonize your energy. Breathe in deeply, close your eyes. Let go. Let go, push them out. How'd you feel? More free, lighter. Thank you very much. What we were doing with this treatment, with this healing, is precisely understanding that when we were living here in this planet, our Mother Earth, there's a life in duality. Our body is divided from the naval area down and the naval area up. We have two arms, two legs, two eyes, two nostrils. This is the representation of that duality. Energetically within our bodies, we have positive and negative. Duality is very important in the tradition because it's the representation of life. This allows us to have harmony and balance. We're going to help Juan Pablo get up. After the treatment, they might feel a little dizzy. You feel a little dizzy? Yes. This dizziness represents the fact that his energy is expanded and his body is adapting to his new energy. It just takes a few minutes to adapt to it. Many people feel as though they've grown after this healing treatment is done. It's not that they've grown but that their energy has expanded. Thank you very much. Thank you. Again, let me thank everybody for doing this great demonstration and enjoying a little bit of the traditions of Mexico that are coming alive. They're reviving these great traditions that have been launched for hundreds of years. They are very effective and they've been proven that they do work. So again, I want to thank all of you for a wonderful demonstration.
